Bianca Bustamante considers to make history (or HERstory) and the Filipina racer just celebrated another groundbreaking accomplishment. Last week, the 18-year-old athlete announced that she is the first ever female racer to join the McLaren Driver Development Program. The England-based team sees potential in Bustamante and is confident they can help her reach her F1 dreams.
Bustamante shared her feelings on the revelation in a press statement: “This is such an unreal moment in my career, to sign with McLaren and ART Grand Prix is way beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined growing up racing karts in the Philippines. I still have a hard time seeing my name next to McLaren without getting emotional, as the history and heritage linked to this team leaves me truly speechless.”
The McLaren Driver Development Program has ties with 20% of Formula 1 racers, including giving a similar opportunity to stars Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris at the start of their careers. Good luck and congratulations to Bianca Bustamente!
