Filipino singer-songwriter and producer Ace Banzuelo relives the messy and glorious days of high school romance in the music video for his new single “Meron Ba.”

The MV is directed by award-winning filmmaker JP Habac, who is responsible for some of the most iconic romantic dramas in recent years, including 2017’s I’m Drunk, I Love You, 2021’s Dito At Doon and 2023’s Love You Long Time. According to Habac, the concept behind the visual narrative is all about taking risks.

“For people who aren’t born into privilege and don’t have enough resources to take risks, decision-making is tough...They don’t have a choice but to ask the universe for a sign or take a leap of faith, thinking that it would give them a sense of clarity.
Taking risks is good if you have the privilege, but if not, you have to be realistic.”

Ace Banzuelo stars as the dreamy student navigating the most painful and endearing parts of adolescence while getting entangled in a relationship mishap.

“I'm happy to express myself freely, not only as a musician but also as an actor in my music videos,” the prolific artist shares. “I enjoyed collaborating with direk JP as the experience gave me more ways to execute this video authentically.” As for Habac, he appreciates the Muli performer for his valuable inputs on the project. “Ace is very hands-on with the material. It’s refreshing to witness how deeply involved he is, from concept development to the post-production phase. You can tell right away how protective he is with the vision of the song and how collaborative he is as an artist.”

The MV also stars young actors Pauline Quijano, Jack Burgos, and Nour Hooshmand, who also played an important role in the music video of his previously released single, “Tadhana.” Ace Banzuelo’s “Meron Ba” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

On the R&B-inflected, dream pop track, the young multi-hyphenate unpacks multiple reasons as to why love can be quite difficult to find. “Pag-ibig (Meron Ba) was inspired by a particular scenario in my life when I was looking for something not everyone can provide an explanation for,” shares Banzuelo. “If you ask someone what love is, you will get a different answer every single time.”
Produced and written by Banzuelo himself, “Pag-ibig (Meron Ba?)” effortlessly glides through bedroom synths and ethereal, minimalist arrangements, while making the kind of music that is easy to get lost in.

“I'm not going for anything big, but I kept it simple without losing my signature dreamy production style and R&B vocal performances.”

Ace Banzuelo also emphasized that he got to finish the track in one sitting. According to him, the second verse remains his favorite part of the song, as it explores the realistic experience of falling in love when you're young. “Sonically, the song sounds like a dream, but it's very real at the same time,” the breakthrough chart-topper adds.

Following the positive reviews that SB19 and NOBITA earned for their unique spin on The Eraserheads’ beloved classics, more OPM acts have come together to pay tribute to the country’s biggest and most influential band of all time.

Multi-hyphenate pop soloist Ace Banzuelo reinterprets “Ang Huling El Bimbo” with intimate, soul-crushing details. Transforming the epic anthem into a spacey jam, the young hitmaker peels back the layers of the original with his brooding, bedroom-pop styling. He imprints his own identity to the material, while valuing the lyrical profundity and awe-inspiring bigness of the original.

“It's great that I'm allowed to give it the sound and approach that I want. A lot of the original was kept, but a lot was taken away. This project became meaningful to me throughout the process because I was producing it as if I had written the song."

Alt-rock newcomers of Mercury and Any Name’s Okay vocalist Sof Abrogar join young hip-hop virtuoso Alex Bruce in reinterpreting “ Superproxy ,” a cross-genre smash originally performed by The Eraserheads and legendary rap icon Francis M. The newly formed ensemble breathed new life into the timeless tune with a more jagged sonic direction that sounds both retro and
futuristic at the same time.

“I think we pretty much did our own thing, but left the structures and melody of the song. It was a pretty tricky song to work on given the genre, but we’re pretty happy with how it came out nonetheless.”

MERCURY

“It was honestly an honor for us to be able to cover an Eheads song and be able to incorporate our own flavor into it,” says of Mercury in a collective statement. Alex Bruce was grateful to be part of this project, and considers the song one of her go-to jams. “This song is a masterpiece. It’s iconic. I wanted to add a little spice, a little flavor, and a bit of contemporary oomph to it. Our reworked version is a fusion of old school and new school.”

Growing up in a big family with a collective love and fascination for ‘80s and ‘90s Pinoy rock, Any Name’s Okay lead vocalist Sof was initially intimidated by the project, but took the challenge to heart in hopes of fulfilling her childhood dream. “Besides what I mentioned earlier about my family, I take particular inspiration from The Eraserheads’ lyricism in Tagalog or Filipino...The band inspires me to really root my own music in my own
experiences and in empathy for others’."

"Even in my own music career with ANO, I try to use Filipino in our songs as much as I can, and I really think the Eraserheads use the language in all its richness and strength. I also love how they are unapologetic in writing about our culture, whether that’s as shallow as UP life or as large as national politics."

Apart from the revamped tracks by some of today’s biggest hitmakers, five of The Eraserheads’ legendary albums were re-released in full 360-degree spatial sound to give listeners a new immersive music experience. These influential records include Ultraelectromagneticpop!, The 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition, Circus (25th Anniversary Remastered), Cutterpillow,
Fruitcake, and Sticker Happy.

Ace Banzuelo’s new song will definitely have you in your feels. The singer/songwriter's latest release “Walang Himala” is a melancholic synth-pop track that acts as a break-up anthem that follows up his earlier release “Himala.”

“Walang Himala’s emphasis on betrayal can be interpreted in multiple ways,” says the Laguna-based singer-songwriter and producer. “It’s not afraid to embrace a darker, more lamenting turn. Coming from ‘Muli,’ this particular track reeks of angst and frustration in the most human way possible. Some people have experienced it at some point in our lives. It’s my way of comforting them as a songwriter/musician.”

Rising young stars, Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin enter the next steps to their careers with this team up for Ace Banzuelo's newest music video for the song, "Muli." This marks one of their first official projects as a tandem pair, which is known by fans as FranSeth. The video hit 1 million views on its first day after the release on July 3rd. The long time friendship and connection the two actors have shined through in their portrayal of lovers. Their chemistry is off the charts that matches the tone of the track.

Ace Banzuelo's pop ballad shows the ups and downs of a relationship from the good moments all the way up to its falling out. The break-up track hits the heartstrings with its hard-hitting lyrics of longing, regret, and hope. The aesthetic of the video with its darker gradients and muted colors portrays the sadness of the melody and the lyrics. Francine and Seth's acting skills were top notch making audience believe and feel the hurt of a break-up.

There will be more FranSeth coming soon as they will be staring in a new ABS-CBN and Dreamscape Entertainment series, Dirty Linen with Janine Guiterrez and Zanjoe Marudo. "Muli" gives us a taste of the potential of this tandem and we're excited to see more!
