2023 was a historic year for Filipinos in pop culture and 2024 started off with the same energy with Jo Koy making history as the first ever Filipino-American to host the prestigious Golden Globe Awards last Jan 7. Jo Koy’s monologue featured the comedian poking fun at the biggest names in Hollywood, most notably: Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift.
He also poked digs at the two biggest movies of the year: Barbie and Oppenheimer. The latter dominated the annual spectacle by taking home five awards including Best Drama.
