The underdog Filipinas squad earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory, upsettin co-host New Zealand. It was Sarina Bolden who scored the Philippines first ever goal at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. She achieved the historic feat off a header at the 24th minute mark of the match. This would be the lone goal of the defensive match-up and Philippines goalie Olivia McDaniel earned Player of the Match honors thanks to her superb goaltending.
The Philippine women’s national football team plays #12 ranked team Norway on July 30, with a chance to advance to the knockout stages.
