Model, stylist and fashion designer Aleali May and actor, model, and pro-skater Evan Mock both took on Mattel Creations in creating their own designs for the Collaboratory Collection. Aleali May designed her own Barbie doll decked out in 2 outfits inspired by her love for fashion and Jordans while Evan Mock reimagined his first car as a Hot Wheel. They are two out of four collaborators for this collection which includes Kristopher Kites and Blue the Great.
Aleali May is no stranger to collaboration as she released a new collabo with Air Jordan over the summer for the AJ14 release. It's only natural she expands to designing with the most iconic doll, Barbie. She designed two outfits for her doll, taking inspiration from her favorite Paris Fashion Week moment and a tribute to the Jordan "Fortune" 14 collection.
According to streetwear blog, Highsnobiety, styling and creating her own Barbie doll in her liking was a full-circle moment. “I wanted to create a mini version of myself as a Barbie, and create all the staple pieces I usually wear during Fashion Week. They [Mattel] it executed so flawlessly. Down to my A-chain, bag collaboration with jewelry designer Martine Ali, and even my first Jordan collab.” All items in this collection will be released for a limited time only starting on December 3rd.
While Aleali May took on doll design, Gossip Girl's Evan Mock designed his own Hot Wheels figure. Inspired by his hometown of North Shore in Oahu, he reimagined his first car a 1987 Toyota Pickup. This North Shore Edition reflects the same truck he grew up driving in Hawai'i.
The Hot Wheels collection definitely gives off Ohana vibes as it features Evan's brand and signature design elements with an attached surfboard. “It was the first truck I ever owned and I really wanted to recreate it. When I look at it now, I’m reminded of home and Hawaii. It was also the truck I sold to move to California to pursue my dreams, so it means a lot to me.”
