Marvel's Sr. Visual Development artist, Anthony Francisco was born in Quezon City and raised in Cubao, Philippines, Anthony Francisco migrated to America in his late teenage years with his family and settled in Los Angeles, California. As a young comic book fan back in the Philippines, Anthony aspired to one day turn his passion for art into a career. But, it took a stint in the Navy to fully realize that there was a long hard road ahead of this dream, and more than ever, he needed to focus on reaching that goal. 

Luckily Anthony met the love of his life, Analiza Francisco, who has been beside him throughout the journey, even before there was a glimmer of hope for a big break. Follow along as Anthony and Analiza reminisce on his journey from comic book fan to Senior Visual Development Artist for Marvel Studios, who is known as the “Visual Father of Baby Groot,” he has also designed iconic characters like the Dora Milaje, Okoye, and Nakia, Loki for Thor Ragnarok, Tazerface and Teen Groot, to name a few.

ABOUT Anthony Francisco:

Anthony Francisco is a Senior Staff member in the Marvel Studios Visual Development Department, where he helps with designing the Heroes and Villains of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dubbed as the “Visual Father of Baby Groot” he has also designed iconic characters like the Dora Milaje, Okoye and Nakia, Loki for Thor Ragnarok, Tazerface, and Teen Groot, to name a few. Additionally, he helped shaped scenes in movies, such as Avengers Infinity War when he suggested the idea of dropping the moon on Iron Man during his battle with Thanos. Other Marvel films and series he has contributed to include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1,2,3; Ant-man, Ant-man, and the Wasp, Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania; Black Panther 1 & 2Captain Marvel 1 & 2Doctor StrangeAvengers: Infinity War and Avengers End GameWandaVisionThor: RagnarokThor: Love and ThunderBlack Widow and Shang-Chi.

At the beginning of his 20-year career as a concept artist, he has worked for FX houses like Stan Winston Studios, Rick Baker, ADI, Harlow FX, Steve Johnson, and Captive Audience gave Anthony the opportunity to work on movies like Superman Returns, A.I., Men in Black 2, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, Alien VS Predator, Species 3, The Passion of the Christ, and Chronicles of Riddick. From 2004-2006 he worked as a concept artist at NCsoft Santa Monica on the Guild Wars and Tabula Rasa MMO titles. Following his time at NCsoft, Anthony joined the team at Offset Software as the lead concept/story artist to work on a fantasy-based FPS game. In 2011 he worked at Rhythm and Hues on Hunger Games, RIPD, and Seventh Son. Anthony also did illustration work for Magic: The Gathering and has been an instructor at Gnomon School for Visual Effects, Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Concept Design Academy, and CGMW online.
