March 2021 – RE-TERRA, an architecture competition that calls on students and graduates of architecture, design, and planning to conceive innovative proposals to re-terraform Metro Manila back to its innate fertility and abundance. Through the spirit of competition, RE-TERRA acts as an exploration of ideas and comprehensive strategies for integrating agriculture into the urban setting, so that food production, storage, preparation, and consumption are treated as part of Philippine cities’ infrastructures and programs.

On March 20, 2021, RE-TERRA will be holding an in-person event at 10 AM at The Manila Hotel where the top four (4) finalists will present their proposals to the jury, which is composed of locally and internationally renowned individuals from the fields of architecture, design, and agriculture. The finalists’ proposals will be assessed for their potential development, plans, and ideas to be used in future project proposals to be actualized in Pasig City.

The Re-Terra Finals will be attended by the competition founder – Kat Encorporado, Food Security Ambassador – James Reid, Pasig City Mayor – Mayor Vico Sotto, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture – Sec. William Dar, Head, Council of Deans and Heads of Architectural Schools – Chona Ponce, Architect and Former Dean of College of St. Benilde School of Design and Arts – Joey Yupangco, Principal Architect, Urban Planner and Founder of Palafox Associates – Jun Palafox, President of East West Seeds – Henk Hermans, and Principal Architect of Ecotektonika, Rowena Ramos to witness the announcement of the winner to the architecture competition that is hosted for five (5) months of preparations.

I have emphasized time and time again, the crucial role of the youth in agriculture, and today, you just proved me right,” says William Dar, Secretary of Agriculture of the Philippines and RE-TERRA 2021 juror, “let me also congratulate the people behind RE-TERRA for their successful event and for helping us establish a food-secure and resilient Philippines.”
