Clara Benin celebrates the release of her sophomore studio album with a major concert happening at the Music Museum on September 22, 2023 (Friday), from 8pm onwards. Aptly titled ‘befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert,’ the show chronicles Benin’s journey as an artist coming to terms with self-acceptance and healing while showcasing musical maturity through years of experience and growth.

“Headlining my concert at the Music Museum feels incredibly exciting and a bit nerve-wracking,” the Filipino singer-songwriter shares. “I think that the venue's classic charm and quality acoustics make it the perfect place to perform my new album! I really want my fans to be comfortable and fully immersed in my music, so choosing a seated venue was very important to me.” ‘befriending my tears, a Clara Benin concert’ serves as her second major show after staging a sold-out, two-night residency at Teatrino Greenhills in 2016. This time around, the Parallel Universe artist will be performing all the songs from her newly released album, along with fan favorites from her catalog.

“I haven't performed a very long set in a while...You can expect to hear all the new songs from my album and, of course, some old favorites.”

Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin drops a song about leaving the past behind, and embracing the newness that comes with it.

On her new single “small town,” the Parallel Universe artist continues the journey of acknowledging that the world is changing and that unlearning people and places could be an enriching way of taking control of one’s life and destiny.

“small town" was inspired by my high school experience living in the province, where it was inevitable to bump into someone you know when you're out in public,” Benin reveals.

“It's a post-breakup song about trying to find yourself again and struggling because everything around you reminds you of your ex.”

While the exquisitely moving track comes from a place of familiarity, Benin mentions that “small town” is inspired by her growing fascination with coming-of-age films of the early 2000s. The pensive pop-rock lullaby is written by Clara Benin herself and Gabba Santiago and produced by Sam Marquez and Tim Marquez of One Click Straight.

The OFFMUTE muse reveals, “I really enjoyed working on this song, because it felt like reliving my teenage years, when I felt so lost and angsty all the time. It's nice to look back on those years now that I'm older and write about all my experiences then.”

“small town” serves as Clara Benin’s last single before she releases her first studio album in eight years. According to Benin, the up-and-coming record reflects her growth as a singer-songwriter whose work displays vulnerability and versatility in equal measure.

2022 has been a great year for Clara Benin. Aside from getting featured on a Times Square billboard in New York ahead of the International Women’s Day, the folk darling received two nominations at the recently concluded 8th Wish Music Awards and collaborated with international artists such as British singer-songwriter Lowswimmer. On top of her achievements, Benin also dropped a song called "Affable Dork," which garnered rave reviews for "adopting a jazz-pop approach."

In "different…," Clara Benin takes a familiar musical route without losing the riveting earnestness of the subject. As expected, the FIlipino singer-songwriter has mastered the art of subtlety, and on "different," it’s here to stay: beautifully woven as if it’s an integral part of Benin’s identity as an artist.

"We went for a more stripped-down instrumentation so we could really highlight the lyrics...I really wanted to play around with more organic sounds. Majority of the percussive sounds that you hear in this song are actually just Gabba tapping on random things around my studio."

Benin opens 2023 with a soothing tune that revels in the idea of ‘what ifs' and how it often sparks curiosity and wonder. Her new single, "different…" draws inspiration from a rom-com classic, a common theme among her last few releases.
"I wrote this song after being inspired by the movie, When Harry Met Sally," Benin admits. "My song "different…" is about having a really good friendship with someone and wondering if you two could take that relationship somewhere different."

The track is produced by Francis Lorenzo and Gabba Santiago, with her dad Joey Benin playing fretless bass. Clara initially recorded the vocals and guitars of the song in her dad’s studio in December 2021, during the time when she visited her family in her hometown. The rest, as they say, is history.

Clara Benin is back with a new song! The Filipino singer-songwriter’s new track titled “Affable Dork” is a track about the musings and innocence of teen romance. The single draws inspiration from coming-of-age films and books with sharp satirical bite.

Benin discussed the song in a press release: “The song is about the thought process of a girl overthinking her relationship with an affable dork because she feels unworthy of his attention. As you navigate a complete picture of the story, you, later on, realize that fantasies only remain as such and don’t translate to reality.”

Watch the music video for “Affable Dork” below.

Clara Benin’s newest music video will definitely give viewers the feels. The Manila-based superstar’s latest release for “blink” definitely stays true to the song’s emotional rollercoaster.

Heavily inspired by Michel Gondry’s classic Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie, the music video finds the folk-pop phenom waking up in bed on a distant shoreline of a beach, while navigating her journey towards healing and self-preservation.

The aesthetically pleasing music video was directed by Josh Elefan, a close friend and frequent collaborator of Benin. “We actually came up with the concept together, this video is so personal to the both of us.”
