Filipino-American students from the Georgia Tech FSA remixed the traditional folk dance’s normal style with Lil Nas X’s “Dolla Sign Slime” choreographed by Ethan Ray (the first dancer seen in the video) for the school’s Halo Halo Mixer event on April 16th. The video, which has gone viral on social media, caught the attention of the rapper, who then shared a reaction on his Twitter account.
Tinikling is a traditional Philippine folk dance that originated during the Spanish colonial era and the classic dance typically involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. Traditionally, it is paired with rondalla music, which is an ensemble of stringed instruments.
